Career Day and More! Posted 10/9/18

      Dear Fairburn Families,

Thanks to the more than 100 parents that joined me at my first Coffee with The Principal on Friday.     It was great to hear from all of you! Thanks for what I know was a tremendous response to today’s Walk or Bike to school day! Fairburn families stepped up!

Our school will participate in our second annual school-wide College and Career Day on Friday October 12th!   Students will meet career professionals in their classrooms and all kids will participate in a Parade of College or Careers from 8:00 – 8:20 AM on the big yard. Parents are welcome to join us on the yard, just like every other morning. Students should come to school dressed in career choice attire or college apparel. Make a 8 ½’ x 11” sign that they can carry in the parade that states the name of their career choice.

On October 16, 2018 at 8:15 am Fairburn is hosting our fall GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Parent meeting.  Please join us as we discuss our 2018-19 GATE program with topics that include, GATE Identification, Enrichment Opportunities and School Choice.

We will practice our school’s response to a major Earthquake in our annual SHAKE Earthquake Drill on Tuesday October 16 at 10:15 AM.  Our school staff will simulate a response to a large earthquake.  Students will Duck, Cover and Hold, then evacuate to the play yard, then our staff will take on their roles to ensure that all children and staff are accounted for and safe following the quake.  We have 72 hours of emergency supplies, food and water for the whole school on our campus.  Your child will be safe here until you, or a person identified on your emergency card can get up to school to pick up your child.  In case of an earthquake or any other emergency where you wish to pick up your child, come to the REQUEST GATE on Westholme to ask for your child.

Picture Day is coming on Thursday, October 18. Watch for information that will be coming home with your child.

Thursday, October 18th at 8:15 am join Ms. Patterson, for our ELAC meeting. We will be discussing the District Master Plan and student progress, and the path to reclassification.  All English Language Learner Families are invited, remember your voice is an important piece of our students’ progress.

Attention 4th and 5th grade parents, the Middle School Choices Meeting will be held on October 19 at 8:30 am. Fifth grade students will be in attendance to freely ask questions about middle school.  We have invited the following schools to attend, Emerson, Palms MS, Revere and Walter Reed Middle School. Parents are encouraged to attend.  Parents from younger grades are welcome, but the presentation will not be as applicable to your child.

I hope to see all of you on Saturday, October 20 for our FALL FESTIVAL from noon until 4:30 PM on the yard! We’ve got all kinds of exciting and amusing activities planned, from the Rocket Slide and Maze o’ Doom to Face Painting and the always-entertaining Velcro Wall. Stay tuned for more details and be sure to tell your friends and neighbors to join the fun—the more the merrier!

We are also actively seeking partners—families and businesses—who would like to sponsor a ride or activity at the Fall Festival. We’ll be offering prominent recognition to sponsors onsite and through social media so it’s a great way to get some publicity for your business and to show your unwavering support for Fairburn. Visit https://we-are-fab.com/corporate.html for more information or email info@we-are-fab.com.

I also hope your child is excited about our planned Halloween Day Parade of Masks.  On Wednesday, October 31st, children may bring a costume in a bag to school that day to put on (preferably over their clothes) after lunch.  The parade is open to all parents at 1:30 PM on the yard.  Please no replica weapons, demeaning costumes overly bloody or scary clown masks!

    Have a wonderful week!
